Hold on to your goals

At the beginning of this year I made a “deal“ with myself. I will not go as far to say a “New Year‘s Resolution” because I know how horrible I am with those.

I thought of all the things that over the past few years have changed. I got a new job, had three kids, and had less time for myself. I wanted to get back something that I enjoyed and loved to do that was just about me! I chose reading.

I love a good book. I remember when I was little, my mom would have to take away my books sometimes so I wouldn’t stay up all night reading. I have a vivid memory of my sweet mom taking me to the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire midnight book release. I went in Barnes and Nobles and got my fresh new HP book and went home and read that thing until I was done. No break, just consumed by the story and wanting to know what happens next! I was not gifted with the ability to develop an entire world in my head or to write a novel that encourages the reader to binge the entire book in a night. I am so thankful that God gave that gift to some brilliant men and women though!

So far my journey this year has not gone smoothly on the reading front, but I am determined! I have done better than anticipated and am on my 4th book this year (thank you to my sister and friends for the encouragement and accountability).

Find something you love that is just for you. Most of the times as mothers and wives, we are so consumed with the selfless acts and taking care of everyone else that we forget about ourselves. Take time out to find what makes you...well you...and hold on to it! I’ll tell you what, my one thing of reading helps me stay one step further away from snapping in two 😂.
